Seems my tree is actually a black locust

>The pretty knowledgeable tree guy came by to offer an estimate, and stated firmly that it's a black locust. The trunk sections are fairly small diameter, and short, so I'm not going to go great lengths to try to make furniture wood from it. He also says it's decent firewood; think I'll divert a couple of lengths to possible handle-making use, since I've got a lot of socket chisels to handle up.

As firewood, I think only osage and maybe mesquite offer more BTU's per cord. And given its extraordinary rot resistance, do not rule out fence post material or outdoor furniture stock.
