I lay them out by using a compass or something of the diamter needed--in this case 3/4"--and drawing it out. I then typically cut close to the line using either a fret or coping saw [which depends on how thick and what wood as the fret has a finer blade in it].

Then I shape usually with a block plane, going at it from both sides and meeting in the middle of the radius. Smooth it out with a sanding block being careful to keep the vertical surface square to the top [that is, if it needs to be].

>If indeed you meant corner, the firt response is the way to go. But, if you really meant edge then make a half an octagon with a spoke shave then a what ever a gon by knocking off the octagon corners and then smooth to a half circle edge.

>I guess I missed the point of your initial post. For layout I use trammel set. Or compass. Or radius template. For a small 3/8" radius, the template is the easiest to use. I guess you could also use a dowel or perhaps a dime as a template. I think using a dime coin as your template gives you the best story for entertaining the youngsters.

Or you could make a plane that would give you some time to think of a better reason to put that project off untill you decide to buy a tool.
