I think it's great. I just got one in order to try out the shorter handles, and I wanted to get a chisel that was truly 1/4", not a metric approximation. It came very sharp, I just honed it and tried it out on a number of woods. I did some chopping and the edge held up. I haven't tried the ones with longer handles so can't compare, but I have found the handle to be very comfortable. It's definitely worth trying one, Joel will take returns on chisels even if you've used them a bit. I think that I'm going to get one with the longer handle before ordering more sizes, but in either case, the short-handled 1/4" seems useful to me so I'll be keeping it!

I honed it freehand on whatever the bevel was. I believe it was a higher angle than 25 -- probably 30, but I don't recall. I could check it tomorrow. If you're interested in using them at a low angle for paring, I'd probably go with the longer chisels anyhow. I'll check the bevel angle for you tomorrow.
