>In addition to some simple track task lights, I need general illumination in my new garage/shop. It is 20'x34'. How many fluorescent fixtures would I need to light this space?

>Don't forget raking light. I recently moved to a shop which offers me a benchtop height window. I've grown very fond of raking daylight on my bench. I'd avoid flat lighting if you can in a hand shop. So, even after you install your overhead lights, find a way to create that soft raking light on your bench.

>I let the fashiopn consultants at Value Village do my lighting for me, picked up 3 of those spring-loaded arm-type study lamps. One shared between the lathe and grinder, one modified to accept the 3/4" dog holes on my work bench, and one for the router table. Dirt cheap, those new florescent bulbs cost more than the lamps....

>Thanks for the info guys. I went with 6, two lamp fixtures and some cheapo IKEA low voltage spots. I can always plug a few more in I suppose.
