>You can take color samples in to most of the box stores and they will match the color using a computer. The other option would be to match the color yourself using various pigments. If it were me personally I wouldn't try to match the original, but would make a set of matching handles for all my chisels. Or just make a handle that doesn't match; it functions the same or better as the original handle. Or you could buy a 1/4" #750 chisel from Todd Hughes on ebay with a pretty good handle; I think it sold for only around $60.

>It was an un numbered 750 too. I am amazed at what these chisels can go for on the ebay now since they are lets face it a very common chisel. When I first got on the ebay about 8 years ago they were worth very minimal and finaly got so you could hardly give them away esp. if not numbered. I think when LN chose them to make repops of it really helped the originals price out alot.
I think it is probably about impossiable to exactly match an original handle, I have had moderate luck with just a can of red spray paint [touch up paint left over from an old Toyota truck] After painting wipe down when still wet and then when dry I put a light coat of shelack...didn't look to bad.
Is funny at the flea market Sunday my friend Dr. Jim was complaining how he needs some 750 handles as he has some chisels but no handles. Right afterward while looking in a box of tools I find a 750 handle on the loose! I looked for the chisel with no luck so asked the vender what the price on the handle. He looks all though the box for the chisel too but no luck so he asked me what it would be worth if it had the rest. I told him a couple bucks maybe and he tells me to just take the handle and if he finds the rest I can buy it off him for $3 after he finds it...sounded good to me....Did enjoy showing Dr. Jim the handle he missed!....Todd
