>I was gonna buy a couple of the LN 4.5 bronze planes but I thought it was not worth the effort to sell so I just bought one for myself(IRRC number 17). I see on Ebay last night the number 25 plane sold for $961.

I knew I should have ordered more than one. Fate once again pokes me in the eye.

It would almost pay for S&S or Wayne Anderson smoother. Dang! I should have bought 2 if I could have afforded it...

Chad, that is funny!

The thing tho is this: Had you bought one or more of these planes for "investment purposes" you wouldn't of been able to give them away, and than you'd been poked in both eyes. At least that's the way things go for me.

I know a guy who put a broken block plane on e-bay, even stated in his write up that it was broken and it went for $86 IIRC, me, I could sell a dollar for a dime. }:~[

Still you snuck in a Stealth Gloat about acquiring one for yourself, which qualifies you for a big YOU SUCK!!

>I always thought these things would likely trade for a premium...I just didn't think it would happen a few months after they were were being sold by LN. I certainly didn't expect it to sell for double the price. Somebody really wanted one I guess.

>I'm lead to believe that Lie-Nielsen Australia still has some of it's allocation of bronze 4-1/2 smoothers left. Even after shipping from Australia back to the USA it would still have to be cheaper than $961.
