Anybody using jiggers?

>I saw a fuzzy picture of a collection of routers and jiggers in a tool club newsletter, but I couldn't make out what a jigger was. I've never heard of a jigger in this context. The only one's I find pictured on the web are at the OldTools site.
Even with these pictures, I can't make out what's supposed to be going on with this tool or this class of tools. Links or explanations are appreciated.

It is also called a coachbuilder's side router. Used for cutting glazing or panel grooves in frames and pillars. It began to replace the pistol router in the mid-nineteenth century.
