Dirt in finish...Hand tool

>Having attempted to refinish our Oak kitchen table and introducing more than a few imperfections into the varnish...Well lets say I was afraid to sand down the nibs for fear of removing too much finish. I asked the painters at the body shop department of our business if they had any suggestions short of a complete strip and redo. They suggested a "nib file" as seen at this web page:

Wow I didn't know the address was so long. This was the first tool listing that showed up when I googled.
Short story long I borrowed a fine Steck brand nib file and went to work on the table. It works! I recomend any one that has Dirt or bubbles or the like in a film finish to get one and try it. Each little pip was sheared off leaving a slightly dull spot and the finish with out blemishes was not even touched. Now I can scotch brite the surface for the next coat and leave a nice base.JR
