Honduras Rosewood prices?

Denis Chnard, away in eastern Qubec

>Got myself a chunk of said wood (Dalbergia Stevensonii) for my Shepherd Spiers #7 infill plane project. Just wondering what's a fair price for that wood (first time I bought from that person). I'd like to hear your opinions before telling what I paid for it.

If that makes a difference, my chunk is about 10 x 8 x 6 inches, and weighs 25 lbs. No checks, a bit of sapwood, at least 20 years old.

TIA,

DC

>well if it was present in the form of guitar sides and backs it would be in the neighbourhood of 2000 US dollars. That would be about about 5+ sets. Rosewood is one of those things with a pretty unlimited upper end though. A local wood store lists it at 30 bucks a bft, which is about 100 bucks candu.

>Denis,

I were you I'd resaw it up and sell it to some luthiers. Just you some scrap poplar or something for your infill, who said they have to be pretty?!?

Beyond the looks, it's the stability of the wood that matters in an infill, and this is just about the best there is (hopefully!)

>No complaints here, good luck on your infill, and I hope you'll grace us all with pics when your done!
