Brace for impact . . .

>Ever since LV had that wooden brace on the cover . . . well, you know. The only mention I've found on the web is for sale BUT they did mention apple wood. This did work out for me with saw handles but does it sound right for a bit brace ? Also can't quite make out the plans on that cover. Anyone know where one might find such ? I feel my feet slipping here !
