I have not used the DT plane. But I have used the MF and half a dozen other ECE planes and they are pretty darn good planes. Based on that use, if I wanted a DT plane I would pick it up.

I have a vintage MF. The skew is what makes these so much better as a rabbeting plane.

I know Derek has a vintage ECE or the other maker's. They are very good.

I have an ECE DT plane, the same as the one in the catalogue and a new moving fillister from Ulmia which is identical except the nicker. Both planes perform very well, outta the box blades only need honing and keep the edge very long. Nevertheless they have one weak point. It's the fence. It is more a width guage than a fence. Sloping rabbets are the result. I screwed together recently a wooden pendant. It works fine and I will make a fence for the DT plane too.

I have a male and female DT plane from Steve Knight. I'm very happy with, because it does the two parts of the job.

I like ECE planes, they have a way of working out of the box to a professional level, and being easy to keep there, though I think the majority of mine have either Japanese or LV blades in them. It's pretty expensive for something I could make to the same standard in 2 hours. I looked ascance at the fence too, it may depend on how I do the cuts, in practical terms I will probably rough the shoulder anyway.

I hope LV will add the Jointer soon.

Another thing I bought was the scraper roll. I haven't looked at it yet, but I have found the shave roll usefull on the road. In that regard I think this one might have been better if it was large enough to hold the LV burnisher, though that would make the whole thing on the large side.

>One nice thing that's new, is the blades are coming razor sharp, ready to use. Not harp popping, but nice enough for the requirement. I have a few other niggles though, so since I have a home made one, and a Japanese one, this one is going back.
