>Steve, A while back a few of us got into the rabbet vs. fillister debate on this board. There is an opinion that a fillester is a rabbet cut across the grain. I am going to stck to my guns here. That opinion is not born out by the evidence, at least in published guides to woodworking ca. 1900. Those sources indicate that a rabbet is cut along the grain on the side closest to the worker and a fillester is a rabbet cut on the side of the work away from the worker. A rabbet across the grain is, a rabbet.
