>Got the idea from Ian Kirby's "Sharpening with waterstones". Actually, a good part of the book deals with making a sharpening table at the proper height. Problem is, my garage only has so much space, and I don't have much space for an "outrigger" sharpening table to attach to my bench.
A while back I made myself a sawhorse, think it was Chris Schwartz's design, from a woodworking mag, and with the sharpening station, I decided rather than to make a whole new piece of furniture, I would make an add-on.
For those of you who have some experience in the hospitality biz, the metal components of the sharpening station may look familiar. The stones sit in 1/4 size food pan with a plastic "draining bottom" and snap-on plastic lid, and the crud-catching pan is a 1/2 size shallow food pan. The stones rest on strips of varethaned (forgive me, but I need the strips to last me for a while...) fir, and any swarth/water drops into the pan and not onto my bench or floor.
