Quarter-sawn . . .

>I gave up trying to figure out the alchemy of "board-feet" years ago. I just say "Gimme that". So heres the Rookie question of the day . . . is there a short answer for "quarter-sawn" ? I'm in El Paso, Mexico (if you've never lived here you can't understand). The only language is Mexican and "quarter-sawn" draws blank looks. I've always thought it was Quarter-sawn from the log. I just know I'm not phrasing this right.

Edge-sawn is quarter-sawn softwood. This type of sawing is popular I believe with redwood lumber, it's more stable and wear more evenly. Dale

>I guess if someone wants to put a 45* on top of a flag case triangle box, maybe butt joint and put a 45* on both sides of the bottom and brad them together. Add some glass, masonite backing, with bend-over closures and call it good at 40 bucks a pop, and I can ship a dozen at a time might work(?). I spend a little more time on my flag cases.
