I would use a thin-bladed backsaw which had sufficient depth--substitute whatever kind of saw you have--and cut down both joints at the rail/stile joint on the non-hinge side. Slip out the panel and use a floating tenon (even Miller Dowels) to rejoin once the glass was in place.

You're going to need to turn the groove into a rabbet anyway in order to install glass, so I'd cut off the back molding (I guess that's the term?) with a saw and/or plane. If the panel is flat on the backside, you could do a rough job of removing the molding, then plane it down from there, registering your rabbet plane against the panel.

I removed a panel from a solid core door that's now our back door because LOML wanted a window there. If I recall correctly, I did the rough cutting with an electron-killing skilsaw, then finished with chisels and things; although I may have used a screamy whirly thing with handles. In that case, I had to remove sealant/adhesive from the rabbet before I could install the glass, a problem you would not have.

Might be an excuse to start from scratch...

>It is pretty simple to use a wide sharp chisel to chop and then pare the wood out that holds the panel in place. If you are real fussy you can use a bull nose plane to clean up. Done it myself a few times.
