Guess I got my answer :)

>It's still treasure Bill. You're new to handtools yes? Have you learned anything from this one? If so, than besides all the spare parts you've now got the learning that you got from it alone is Treasure. If you're going to get into handtools you might as well have a few spare parts kicking about.
I've never seen a bottom break out like that, bummer that it happened to you. Are you sure there wasn't any indication of that mouth being cracked that you may of overlooked?
Perhaps you can convert this plane into a Scrub.
Also looks like a good opportunity to practice some new tote making, or repairing. Also a good opportunity to try out some of the various methods for "patina" removeal. I myself am a "zapper", but others sing the praises of hot water and Scotch Brite pads. I think some of the various methods are in the Articles section.
Another idea is you can use this blade to get some practice in sharpening.
