More shop frolics

Jim Reed @ Tallahassee

>After spending the morning grinding a dozen #39 blades, I went on a busman's holiday of sorts and spent play time in the shop making a prototype lever cap for a #278. I was pleased with the way it came out. It is hefty and adds a bit of weight to the plane. That feature is not unwelcome as it helps keep the plane on track. The pictures show it in unfinished form. Need to shine it up a bit. Also pictured is the brass bar I gnawed it from.

Ready to make shavings

>Here is the lever cap in place. It sure does brighten up the plane. Kinda like a big gold tooth right up front.

>Jim,

In the first pic what is the cap to the left of the one you made? Is that the orginal?

Let me guess, I found a box of these "ladybugs" for $5 and am rehabbing them right? ;~)

>Yes, the original is pictured by my masterpiece. And yes I have a box full of them to rehab. My wife likes to keep hydrated so she swills bottled water constantly and squishes when she walks. I save the bottoms of the package and use them to sort my projects. When the box is full, I start the rehab. That is why I have a boxful of everything I work on.

If all it takes is a squishy Wife

>I guess I will have to work on that. Buying botteled watter on the way home. If I want to rehab #1's when will the box be full?

I`m betting...

Bob Hackett

>The wife will look like Jabba the Hut(from star wars)before you get a box full of #1`s Ernie.

It seems a small price to pay and I`m sure if anybody can pull it off you can.I don`t know of anybody else who has a #1 nailed to a drawer front so...
