name was in the paper yesterday

Ernie Miller

>I woke up yesterday to find my name in the obituary of the local news paper. I had to look in the mirror to make sure every thing was indead fine My wife checked my pulse and yup I'm fine. This guy was a couple years younger but I don't act my age any way, I came to work today and just got an e-mail telling the office that I had passed away on friday and funeral details would be forth comming. I stepped out of my office al little while ago and came back to find my chair stapler and several other things missing. It don't take long for the volture to circle around here. I think I will see just what happens a little longer befor telling every one.

Make big money on the video, Ernie

woodburnbob

>Ernie, this would be a very good time to get yourself dressed up in your best suit, roll in good loamy soil for 20 minutes, powder your hair with talc, and apply some of your wife's most porcelain colored make-up and oils to the skin of your face and hands. Practice walking a little stiffly and projecting a dull and forboding stare. Also, drop the tone of your voice quite low and practice this phrase until it's convincing: "Who took a deadman's tools?"

Get somebody with a camcorder to follow you at a distance as you walk through the shop visiting the rif-raf. The fellow who produces a small puddle of urine between his feet will probably have your stapler in the trunk of his car.

>That would freak me out! Better get it strightened out before they give away your social security and other things. I like the zombie video idea...

I have a cousin with the same name as me

Bruce, a MN Galoot

>and it has been a very strange history. We were in the Marines at the same time, got out about the same time, went to the same university. One semester, I got his grades and he got mine. He was lucky because mine were much better. One summer I applied for the GI Bill and didn't get it - he did, but he had to pay it back. But the best was shortly after I got married, the phone rang late one Saturday night. Phone was on my new wife's side of the bed and she answered it. A sweet young thing asks for Bruce. This isn't gonna be good. I got the phone and she proceeded to make a series of really interesting propositions and when I didn't respond the appropriately, she asked if I was Bruce Haugen, and when I said yes, she asked where I was from. Obviously I wasn't the right one because she said "I just made an obscene phone call to the wrong guy."

I've had kind of the opposite problem

Bill Houghton, avoiding work in Sebastopol, CA

>similar to the punchline in Bruce's post. Somewhere in our county is someone with my same first and last name who has lived, shall we say, an interesting life. I became aware of him some years back when we'd get phone calls about business deals coming down that were on the shadier side. We eventually figured out that this guy was (a) a trucker, (b) about a decade older than I am, (c) had an unlisted phone number, and (d) in general, made VERY different life choices than mine. The capper was the phone call LOML received from a woman who announced that she was going to have my [his] baby. I had to keep repeating, "No, that's the other guy; no, that's the other guy." We laugh about it now, but I had a tense evening.

I would say that I'd rather explain that I'm still alive, but not so sure - I made the choice to lose weight this year, lost it quickly, which somehow generated a rumor at my employer that I had some terminal disease, and got really tired of explaining that, no, I'd just lost some weight. Still, "I'm alive - hear me talking?" seems easier.

Hang in there, Ernie - we know you're alive. Weird, yes; but alive.

>Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, is there any way you could use this to your advantage? Got any ex-wifes that need ailimoney checks stopped? Owe Rob Lee any any money? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?

No actually, as much fun as you could have with this, this could turn into a real nightmare for you. Best be on the watch out for "strange things" happening, which, you won't find to be of the humorous kind.

Re: name was in the paper yesterday

Ian Smith (Sydney Australia)

>I haven't had the obituary experience yet but I see my name in the paper and other places all the time. The are a heap of Ian Smiths around.

I used to work for BHP and there were 4 Ian Smiths who had e-mail addresses on the BHP system. I would often get e-mail that was meant to be directed to one of the other 3. Later on when I worked for Alcoa I had the same thing happen. There were a few Ian Smiths at Alcoa as well.

Regards,

Ian S.
