>What is this for? Looks to be homemade, or at least by a foundryman, and I'm sure not for wood. Horse hoofs or leather working perhaps? Must be something special considering the $$ it went for.

>Instrument maker's plane. Probably started life out in a harp shop. The harp pedistals are pretty long and assembled from several peices. A long (decorative) groove up the pedistal crossed several grains. This plane made the grooves straighter than "free-handing" that whole length with a gouge or chisel. Never looked for one but I bet youd pay a lot for one. Pretty specific use. BUT if I had one it'd probably get used !

They used alot of leather fillets at inside corners.
