With grinders when doing visible amounts of camber I normally grind the profile at 90 degrees and then work back and forth until I pick up the edge.

For the subtler stuff I use the pressure technique. For smoothers I just do it on a stone. If you were taking a 1 thou shaving the total curve would be 1.5 thouish at 45 degrees, hard to see at all.

When I make things like scrub planes I usually start with a pattern off the computer that I print on the steel. Or I use a divider directly on the steel. I would saw and grind these eedges before heat treating.

New Jig, have not tried it yet.

My standard Tormek jig is sloppy after much use and works well for small camber (approximation). Press hard on one corner and lift the opposite corner. Mind the fingers!

I did write an article on jigs to camber blades using the LV Honing Guide Mk II. The link is below. This assumes you have the LV. Also LV now do have a jig for the guide that aids in honing the final edge to a camber, as my article also focusses on.

But the easiest (and cheapest!) way to grind a camber on a blade is to use a template. The template is nothing more than an outline of the blade with the radius of the camber filed/sanded off.

Usew it this way:

Thanks for all of these useful suggesions- I never cease to be amazed at the quality of advice that I get on this forum.

I think I'll start by printing out a template, then trying the SVD-110 on the Tormek. Then, I'll see how well the LV Mk II crowned roller works with the waterstones. If I struggle with this, I may attempt a custom jig, as a couple of you have carefully described.
