New project

Jim Reed @ Tallahassee

>Here is a photo of my latest project. I am refurbing a group of Stanley #278 rabbet planes. Many people have never seen one so I thought I would post a group photo. Only a few more pieces to go. I think I will make a knob that fits the round space. In B&G Patrick has bad things to say about it as a fingerhole. I think it is not a fingerhole, rather a place for a removable knob to use when the plane is used on its side.

Almost as many as I have!

>Actually I only have two. Well, maybe 1 3/4. My first one came complete with a fence from a 78 and a non-standard depth stop. While sniffing around for the correct parts (yea, right!), I came upon a good deal on a complete one. Strange looking little buggers, and not very ergonomic, but very handy.

Neal - still looking for parts!

My theory on parts

jim reed @ tallahassee

>is to use the ones that work. Most planes with missing parts are way down on the collector radar anyway. I scrounge from other planes and also make parts. The collectors may sneer, but real woodworkers understand.
