Fumes and lungs

>Hey, guys, I have been using boiled linseed oil and oil based varnish and my lungs are bothered by the fumes. Yes, I am applying the finish in a well ventilated area by maybe I am sensitive to this stuff. I heard that Tried and True has no vapor issues but have not heard good things about its drying time. Does anyone have any expiriences with Tried and True or ideas to avoid the lung irritation?

>Tried & True has no solevents to speak of in it, so it should help you. Keep in mind that there are three different products in the line. I've tried their "Danish oil" and it takes forever to dry, with not much of a build IMHO. Others have tried the "varnish oil" and are very happy with the product (that's what Christian Becksvoort uses). I've bought one can of the varnish oil to see if it's that much better than the Danish oil, haven't had the occasion to try it yet.

>to avoid fumes is to use a breathing mask with charcoal filters. Less than forty bucks and worth it. Not 100% but pretty darn good.

>The moment you worry about drying time you are kinda asking for trouble, because most of the things that promote it are not healthy for you. One product that looks nice is the maloof finish, 1 part boiled linseed oil, one part 100% tung oil (capable of polymerisation, but not TO varnish), and one part valspar semi-gloss oil varnish. Apply like any drying oil the varnish has driers in it, but the mix takes them down as it takes down the solvents.

>The tried and true has a little smell to it. What I do is cut it with minwax quick drying poly mixing it 50/50. It really needs to be applyied in very thin well rubbed out coats. I have asthma it seems to be a winning combo for me.
