Help researching furniture please...

>I have a chair and a rocker that have been in my family for the last 40 years or so. They were a gift to my mother from a friend and I don't know how long the friend had them. I've been interested in their history for some time but have never taken the time to inquire. The chair stands about 37" tall and the rocker about 35".
I don't think they are very old because the seats are glued up stock and the joint looks like a machine made glue joint. I'm guessing that they might be copies of some style or period furniture and am looking for any information about them that I can pass on to my children.
The central back support in both pieces is a veneer front/back layed over solid wood. I did not notice any marks that would help identify them.
