>Seems to me one of us was a collector of these, so I thought I'd post a link to this one, and ask just out of curiousity if in the world of combination planes if these are good users. I would think they would be because they look to be quite heavy in comparison to say a #45.

One could argue that the thicker cutters reduce chatter (if that is ever a problem with these) but the bottom line, imho, is that selection of a clear, straight grained piece of wood and reading correctly reading the grain(and obviously a sharp cutter)is far more important than which plane.
