Frankly I was surprised that it went up that high.

Imagine that was what this seller was shooting for and probably not a too unreasonable expectation.....If I had this plane that is the vaule I would have put on it I think. I do believe prices are down some now, well at least leveled off, then they were from back then. Probably because the high prices brought lots of stuff out of the wood work and flooded the market some. I am sure for many items they will come back up.....

Coarse, if he had taken the $800 I offered for it I would of been red-faced because I didn't have $800. He is the type of seler who sets up, has price tags on all his items, and there he sits like Humpty-Dumpty waiting for people to buy his stuff. Won't budge off his prices no how, no way, and this I knew from dealing with him before so I decided to yank his chain abit.

It had a $5000 reserve if I remember right. The stickers are there because there was a spate of Nr. 1 mint in the box planes for sale shortly after this one ended without a buyer. They all used the same excact pictures as the original auction and all the auctions were eventually yanked by e-bay before ending.

What is bothering me is that it looks to me like this supposed 1874 plane has a sweetheart blade - unless my eyes are deceiving me.

>If you read the description carefully the seller doesn't say that the plane was made in 1874 but rather only was made AFTER 1874. He does say that planes made befor 1884 are the ones that don't have a laterial lever and this plane doesn't have a laterial lever....but of course no number ones have laterial levers. I think the plane dates from the 1920s-1930s.

...Looks like to me the seller is not a "Tool" person but just sombody that has done some research on what they are selling and don't really know to much about it. Maybe one of those services that will list stuff on the ebay for people...don't know. Probably another reason it didn't go higher ....Todd
