>I don't know if I'll use it...I already have the iron version but in the standard angle. It hasn't seen any wood yet either...I bought it at the Lie-Nielsen store as a reminder of a nice trip to Maine with my wife. Buying an extra lobster roll as a souvenier wouldn't have kept as well.
The iron one will see some wood at some point. I just haven't taken the time to sharpen it up and my other smoother already works well.

My wife would take that trade..

My Maine Lobster Story

>Back in June 2003, I was on my way to see LN factory and I stopped by some restaurant, looking pretty decent. To my disappointment and amazement, I had the grossest lobster in Maine. Later on on our way South, we stopped by for a lobster roll, and that one was tasteless, on the border of being "bad".
That's my Maine lobster story.

>Pam,
Don't you think I can tell the difference in between lobster and fake stuff made of artificially flavored pollock? ;-)
Lobster itself was tasteless. Perhaps freezer burnt or something like that.

>Down to Gaspsie or NB... Even in my birthplace, 300+ miles from the ocean, we get fresh, tasty stuff...
I'll always remember my first "real" summer job (real in the sense that it was in my field of study) 20 years ago in Rimouski. Shortly after I started, the office had its annual seafood party. Lobster, crab, shrimp, all you could eat, fresh, I mean, REAL fresh... It was just wonderful...
There used to be a seafood truck parked on a road nearby here in the summer. The man would get stuff shipped from Newfoundland daily (he was a Newfie himself). Couldn't understand half of what he said, but his stuff was almost as good as the fresh stuff (not cheap, understandably). In Ottawa. Haven't seen him around in a while, though...
There's something special in shelling shrimp as you sip a good French Riesling...
Stop it, you're giving me a craving! :)

>With your accent they immediately pegged you as "From away" and obviously fed you a "tourist lobster".The "tourist lobster"(TL for short)is a lower class of lobster that`s easily caught in large numbers around the outlets of water treatment plants and paper mills.
We feed the TL`s to the folks from away just so they won`t develope a taste for real lobster and keep coming back for more.Obviously we have seriously underestimated the diets of most tourists as they seem to love even those TL`s that hang around the sewage treatment plants of coastal cities and become so brain damaged that they`ll eat anything. Some are so repulsed by thier environment that they actually hold thier breath and turn blue!
The only way you can get good deep water lobster is to go down to the dock and buy the pretty green ones from the nice men in the boats. You also have to hide the accent and ask for "lobstah" or they will quickly switch TL`s for the real thing. You can tell the TL`s by thier putrid red color.
Remember, green go,red stop!Where did you think the saying came from?

PS-If you need any help BBQing those nice green sea bugs just let me know.

>Well Bob, I assure you it wasn't my accent, it was the father-in-law's 37'er RV w/ BC plates when we kinda took over (invaded) the parking lot of the restaurant.
Perhaps summer is not the lobster season. Is that why...perhaps?

I must say, though, I like Bob Hackett's explanation.
