Stopped by the dump again today with some more metal to recycle - someone had left a baby stroller out on the sidewalk, and after the third day, I tossed it in the trunk to recycle; plus some stuff from cleaning out our storage shed, a side effect of getting out a piece of furniture that was, of course, at the very back of the shed. Since it's about ten minutes out of my way on the way to work, and since I'm ever more casual about when I show up, SINCE I'M SUPPOSED TO BE RETIRED, DOGGONE IT, I've been going there more often, since that won't be available after I retire.
ANyhow, the lady at the dump bins gave me a Stanley No. 21 6" combo square that someone had spent some time shining up and then brought in to throw away. I suppose I'll find out, when I get it home, that it's horribly out of square, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The No. 21 has a through slot halfway down the rule, and enough length on the tensioning screw that you can flip the rule over when you need the unslotted length on the other side of the head. It's a carpenter's square (markings in 1/8" and 1/16", rather than going finer as a machinist's would), but I can't read the finer markings anymore anyway, so it's just as well. Cute little gremlin, and works very smoothly.
Not quite up to free Stanley No. 2's, but fun.
