LV 1/6 HP Motor Clearout

>Anybody seen the LV Flyer with the A.O. Smith 3Amp 1725RPM motor with 1.35 service factor in the Fall Woodworking Specials flyer?
Think it would make a good motor for a grinder? I'd send a link but LV doesn't have it listed on the site
I want it to spin a 8" wheel for hollow grinding.
Doesn't A.O Smith make pie filling as well?

Regarding the price of CDN$39, it's not much different than a 6" low end grinder that comes with a larger motor.... though 3500rpm.
Regarding A O Smith, I think they are pretty common motors. I think our local farm outlet supply store (Farm&Fleet) carries these as generic use motors in a range of sizes.

I bought a small (1/8th or 1/6th) industrial quality blower motor a while back and was blown away by how smoothly, quietly and well it ran. It is designed to run 24x7 and cost about C$115. Motor pricing and quality seem all over the map, so it is really hard to tell of $39 is a great price or a rip-off.

>I think that is too little for most grinders. I think i have 1/3rd or half on my LV delt sander, and 1.5 hp on my 2 inch. 3hp is nice for tool building but the LV belt does OK with the smaller motor. It was thinking of one for something like their sander/sharpener.
Just yesterday I had to sharpen a a lownmower on my LV and it took a good long time though the blade was not not completely dull.

If it helps - the motor on my desk says "SER 2E96" Type "FH" continuous duty, and reversible. Ambient temp 40C. Frame "A48".

It's not so wonderful in the US where threads are full of people putting together DC 3HP motors with speed controls for under 100, where that might cost me 1K. Or buying surplus treadmill motors for a song.

The price of $39 Cdn is a great price. Don't think it is big enough to drive an 8" wheel the more I think about it but good for the listed descriptions in the flyer
