>My 18 year old grand daughter reported to Ft. Jackson a few weeks ago for her basic training. Her mother says that my grand daughter seems to really like boot camp. She is looking forward to shooting an M-16 and hopes to qualify as a sharp shooter. She also enjoyed the thunder and lightning from the hurricane's trip up the coast. She is a California girl and hasn't seen much lightning.

She`s gonna like FT Jackson.Tell her to keep her stress card handy.Jackson is a cakewalk compared to FLW or Knox.

You must have raised her right to have her step forward and voluteer to do her part when so many are walking away from doing just that.

Like I told my son,The reason we are free to do the things we do is because of those of us who are willing to do what it takes to keep us free.I was amazed when he came home from airborne school for hometown recruiting and many of our "friends" and fellow community members didn`t want thier sons and daughters talking to him.

I`m sure you`ll be happy to see the changes in her when she comes home on leave or to start drilling in your area.Be prepared to become a bonafide genius.She`ll have alot of questions just as soon as they let her phone home and talk to the "old vet".

Pat her on the back,tell her you love her and are proud of her at least every day till she ships out and go out and run at least 2 miles with her every other day.

Ex-Drill's best tip "PHSYICAL FITNESS." Have her as Phsyically fit as she can be, the rest is a piece of cake.

>Yeah Kevin, I experianced that red dirt when I did my Army boot camp at Ft. Benning back in '82. We rolled in on buses from Ft. Jackson, and I told my buddy who was from New Hampshire that I wasn't running on no red track, playing softball on no red softball field, etc,etc, etc. Well, I was ever so wrong on that score!! At about the half way point of our boot camp the Captain came out and asked each and every one of us what we missed most about Home, ansd most of the guys said things like Mom, Dad,dog, girlfriend,, car, etc, etc, and whenit was my turn I said "The BROWN dirt"! Said he'd never heard that one before.

Fortunately she is an ex-soccer player and is still in relitively good shape. she has been out doing some running and other exercises, so she should be fine. she also has 5 years of ROTC behind her, so she's ahead of the game on that score as well. She'll do fine.

>She is not a redhead. She may look it in the pic, but she's not. Actually, she has beautiful cheastnut Brown hair, but she dyes it lighter colors. Right now it is a cross between blonde and orange as she wanted it to be all one color when she went for her Physical and the lady who did it left the chemical on too long, which tainted it a little to what looks like a light orange to me.

I wish she'd leave it alone, as her natural color is so nice.
