>This is really more a planing and morticing beam. Weighs about 400 pounds and required a lot of precarious jacking to get into place. It still needs some smoothing, but I didn't have the right plane with me. It's about 14x12 inches and 10 feet long, though it tapers. This stick had fallen on our beach. in '05 I cut about 20 feet of it, rolled it down to the water and pulled it with a rope a half mile to the house. Parts of the same wood were still useable this year though the tree has been down several years, and I used some of that for a dunbhead shaving mule.
I used go-bars a lot this summer and I will probably use those for hold downs here, when things get organized.
This beam is in the end of the summer shop, so it gets to dry another year before I tear into it again.
