black stain on cherry

>I built a cherry kitchen table 20 years ago. It's finished in tung oil and has aged very dark, almost maroon. This summer my wife put a ceramic lamp on the table. There must have been some condensation underneath the lamp, and it left a very black thin ring. Anything to do besides scrape and refinish?

I don't know of another way than to scrape and refinish. I have advanced the darkening of cherry by many months at a time by just putting it outside on a sunny day in direct sunlight.
Since the tung oil will affect the coloring too, you may want to apply it before placing outside. If you do this, you may want to give the tung oil some extra time to cure first. I have put cherry with tung oil not fully cured in the sun, and come back at the end of the day to find little ?tung oil? hard bubbles over the wood that then needed scraping.
