Getting off on the right foot.....

>"Hey, Grandpa, can you come pick me up?" This plea was made at 7:30 Sunday morning. "Sure I will, Caleb. But you better check with dad first." "O.K....bye."

I turned over secure in the thought that I had at least a couple more hours of sleep. Sure I did. Caleb had barely hung up the phone when he was running up to his folks bedroom and 'checking with dad'. Well, neither dad nor g'pa got any extra zzz's that morning.

I'm pretty sure Caleb is hooked. He's using an LV LA block with the wooden knobs I purchased to be sure the younger folks would have good success early on in their woodworking careers. Caleb is planing the bottom of his tool box.

Congrats on having that kind of relationship with your grandson. I can still remember watching my sons enjoy being with grandpa and great-uncle. They learned a lot from the time with their elders and teachers, and were thoroughly loved.

>Congratulations Frank! I've had great success with our grandchildren (boy 7yrs & girl 8 yrs) using a japanese saw. It doesn't need strenght and the pulling seems to make it easy to saw on the line quarenteeing an instant feeling of success. Also putting boards togehter using "the thing that goes round" ie screws and brace is much easier than hammer and nails.

When they are all grown up and unable to do anything for themselves it will be your Grandson that they will need. Coarse, he'll probably be the only one employed and working his butt off to house, feed, clothe, medical them too.

Keep up the Good Work Frank, and enjoy the Time spent together. Calaeb will be telling "Grampa Stories" that may influence somebodys Life long long long after you're physically gone from this World.

He does like seeing my shop now, even if I'm not quite at the skill level he was. I spent a lot of time with my dad (he a small garage shop too). These things must be where I got my love for wood from. They think I'm a little nutty doing the neander thing, though.

Now, I don't remember getting LN planes to use, though. Can I be your grandson too!

For those of you worried about lack of grandchildren, my grandmother put up a bounty for the first great-grandchild. There are now 7 under the age of 5.
