Hiram Smith 1858 saw
Dale Stansbery
>An acquaintance showed me a pretty unique rip saw this evening. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera along. The front of the handle was straight vertically and had brass trim that I think may have been intended to be used with the top of the saw as a try square. There was a rear sight at the top of the handle to sight down the top of the blade, and there was a scribe inserted vertically in the top front of the handle for easy access. The brass was stamped Hiram Smith, Pat. 1858. Any one know anything about these saws, their rarity, and are they highly collectible?
