A Plane Day

>Score seven planes today

-a no name

-a Solar Mfg (another no name)

-a Wards masters

-a New Craftsman (hope I'm not boring you'all yet)

-a small, #3 size Sargant

-a 14" Sargant VBM ( let's see that's 6)

and a small stanley w/a No. 2 on the bed, Sweet Heart logo on the blade, partial label on the tote and 100% Japanning.

It's seen some use but should clean up nicely.

I'm hearing that giant sucking sound

Are these dump finds, Kevin?

My limited experience (one plane, a No. 4) is that the Wards Master planes are unrecognized gold. I've used it a moderate amount, and sharpened the iron maybe once - it seems to keep sharp for an unbelievably long time. I'm looking forward to seeing what the edge life is on the $2 No. 9-1/2 clone I picked up earlier this summer.

>Now Bill, did I say ANYTHING about A DUMP?

I don't know WHERE you would get an idea like that. Can't a fell'a just go out and BUY a collection of junk planes with a rose in them?

Pics to follow.

>I used to work with a guy, Cary, whose grandfather worked on the woodie cars for Ford. His grandfather's tools were set in a basement after he passed away, and were there for a number of years. One day someone in the family decided to clean up the basement, and the tools were all unceremoniously thrown into a trailer and hauled to the dump. But it is strange, I hear the exact same sucking sound. I seem to recall paying $165 for a number 2 without a label and with a lot of the japanning gone. I think maybe I got ripped off!
