Planing beyond arms reach

>Suppose one has a top 4 ' x 2' (approx) and the grain is such that it must be planed all in one direction. I tried climbing upon it and that was unsuccessful, at least for my ergonomics. Switching end-for-end on bench edge and planing left handed was better and would have been better still if I was even more ambidextrous. This was never a problem with my air driven ROS (or smaller tops) and if I don't figure out something soon it won't be again.
So how does one approach this problem?
Thanks in advance for the sage advice to follow.....
