Lever cap . . .

>Lets say, for a moment, we wanted to re-plate a stanley lever cap. In that moment of insanity, we thought of removing the lever to do so. Remembering that we will need to remove the plating from the mating surfaces for the proper clearance, how would one disassemble the lever cap ? Just checking before I start smacking the pin around with a drift punch. The normal person would probably just buy another one and he probably will. But just for the sake of imformation . . . ?

I'm sure the pin was driven/pressed in. It should be able to be driven out. Why are you replating it?

>No just looney ! I know if I got another #4 for parts I'd restore THAT one too ! I'm finding that this stuff is worse than drugs. More expensive BUT still (as of yet) legal ! AND SWMBO has a pretty good idea where I am most of the time.

>No. BUT . . . With a grinding burr I cleaned up the sides of the lever cap in order to see if I could find a pin securing the actual lever to drive out, freeing the lever. Conclusion - there isnt one ! The lever appears to "swivel" on a pin pressed into a slot in the underside of the lever cap. To get a look-see I'd have to remove the "leaf-spring" the leeps tension on the lever. This "spring" is rivited onto the cap so I'm nervy about bending it back or removing it. Anyone suppose we could re-drill the lever cap to accept a larger rivet to secure the spring back in place? PS : We're learning WAY more about plane construction than was anticipated ! Ah, the journey !
