>If you have an old junkyard nearby you could probably find a large steel casting(or two)that you could use in place of an anvil while you continue to search.I know of more than one fellow who has done all his work on a large piece of RR track and a thick I beam.

Anvils are going for a premium around here lately and unless you`re lucky the days of $1 a pound for the good ones seem to be gone forever.
