strange bedrock plane

>Here is a picture of a 605 Bedrock. It has the bedrock frog with pins and screws, but the sides are rounded. Maybe someone did that to this plane with a file? Or did Stanley make a strange plane?
Any help would be appreciated.

>The early Bedrocks had the same rounded sides as the Baileys. The squared off sides were done in the later Bedrock years.

Where the casting rises up around the frog, on either side of the frog, the tops are lopped off flat, instead of the normal round sides found on the earlier Bed Rocks and the Baileys. This change was advertised as adding significantly to the strength and stiffness of the plane as well as affording an increased area when the plane is used on its sides, a claim that is rather dubious as Bed Rocks can be found with cracks about the main casting in this supposed strengthened area."

>The tall knob and pins/screws imply type 5 or later. "Round" sides, like a Bailey, imply type 4 or earlier. The contour of the plane shown, while rounded, is quite "off" from the Bailey contour.
Conclusion: originally a square sided type 5 of later with custom rounded sides.
Seems like we all saw this in another post awhile back, too. The argument I recall was about motivation: fashion vs wide and symmetrical removal of a crack.

>It's not the one in the classifieds. If I sold this to someone and didn't tell them what they were getting, I would deserve the heat. Didn't happen. I had more than one 605.

>You know, that's a possible explanation.
I notice that the bedrock cheeks rub on my left hand at the thumb knuckle. Maybe someone else decided to relieve that problem, or maybe it was just busted.
