>These are the first handcut dt's I've done. I was very hesitant to try this but am glad I did. It's very satisfying. I've cut a lot of dt's using Leigh, and Akeda jigs but none by hand before. The saw is a Tyzak I bought from a fellow Centralian. I've clamped a batten to the apron to help keep me from overcutting the baseline. Sorry for the poor lighting.

The wood is 2 13/16" think sugar (hard) maple. The front apron will dovetail into an end apron which is going to help support an LV twin screw. The vise has already been fit and works very well.

>The chisel is from a set I got on eBay. The mallet is from an old timer (now deceased) who was a well known custom rifle builder. The chisel, a Bracht, chopped everything and still will slice the endgrain clean. The wood is hard maple, 1 13/16" thick. I flattened the back on the LV Mk II and then set and sharpened the bevel to only 100 grit, including the small back bevel.

>I clamped a piece of scrap to guide my chisel at 90 deg. I'll finish tomorrow, maybe, and post a pic of the joined pieces.

I still use a mallet like that. It was my grandfather's. Still my favorite style.

1st joint dry-fit & a boo-boo

>I'm running out of time and so I cut the pins with my WoodRat. I zipped off about 1/8" of the bottom half-pin before I woke up and realized I was in the shop. I think I can easilly repair that.

Took me most of a day to cut the tails by hand and about 15 minutes to cut the pins. Now I have a true hybrid bench.
