>As I scroll down and read your posts regarding tool sales and meets and such, I get green. My only source so far of "pre-owned" hand tools has been garage sales (very hit and miss) and the giant flea market(slim pickings, well, O.K., I did get an amost new Stanley block plane for $25). Of course there's the "toy store", LV, but in the interests of marital bliss, I don't mention the name anymore in the house...

Anyone know of any tool meets in the Vancouver/lower mainland area?

I am a carpenter by trade.Also a handyman/Jack -of-all-trades.I work around my neighborhood mostly helping people keep up their old houses.I have a fairly large woodworking shop in my house where I work with both hand and power tools. At the moment I'm focusing on Windsor chairs building.I will build most anything if needed. I'm always learning,adapting,changing trying to broaden my woodworking skills.I work mostly with hand tools in my shop but will use power if it is a better way to get the desired result. My wife,Donna,and I live in the woods of Maine with our dogs,cats,and birds. We have 5 grown kids and six grandchildren. Woodcentral has been central to my growth as a woodworker. I pass through this place every day.

The M-WTCA puts out a quarterly magazine that is worth hundreds of dollars in information. The annual dues are only $25. The national meet is held twice per year at various locations, and is quite an event. If you enjoy traveling and have the time to do so, you could easily stock an entire shop at one of these national meets. For cheap tools you would want to be at the tailgate event. Of course, all the tool sellers know pretty much what the tools are worth, but what happens is they get so much stuff that there are a number of items they just want to get rid of. I have bought many items at tool meets for less than ebay values. The other advantage of going to the national meet is seeing very rare tools and the great people.

I've made 300# Ebay purchases and had 2 disappointments, no screw jobs, no malfeasance. The disappointments were my own damn fault. You have more to worry about at the gas station, restaurant and people wandering around in your neighborhood.
