Don't know if he's your first dachsie or if you're an old hand with the breed. If your first, you're in for learning a lot about intelligence, loyalty, possessiveness and love of life. Either way, you've got a winner. Lucy, our current co-habitant of that breed, is 11 yo and so damn smart she scares me sometimes. She's the fifth badger dog in our home over the last 45 years.

There hasn't been a sausage hound in my house since I was in high school. I still have a soft spot for them, in spite of their stubbornness.
I note it's been almost two years since your Petey went off to the Happy Hunting Ground.

OK, this is Kleenex time. Totally OT.
When we went to the breeders to pick out a pup, "Rufus" was barely 4 weeks old. He did not come home until he was 8 weeks, if I recall correctly. We thought we were doing the evaluation, but this was really done by Rufus' mum. Here is a picture of that moment (and you get an idea of where the size comes from. His parents are LARGE).
He really is the most sociable dog I have known (and we have had two other retrievers in the past). He and Jamie are best mates and like nothing better than a wrestle or a hug. This picture was taken about 18 months ago, when he was about 18 months old. I'm afraid that I do not have anything more recent. He is now larger than this.

Derek's dog with a taste for Jarrah reminds me of a friends dog with a taste for sandpaper. Yuck. About as unpleasant as aluminum foil for those of us with fillings. We figured is was something in the glue that
tasted good, though I'd be amazed if any sandpaper makers were still using hide glue.
