looking for a better vegetable peeler? Recently there was an article in Industrial Laser Solutions (see link below) on a new cost efficent design using a Rofin StarWeld TT. If I understand the article correctly then the cutting iron of this peeler is made of high-performance stainless steel. Certainly no tool steel but maybe good enough for a few swipes.

Caveat...sharpening the tiny curved blade on an MF#1 is an art in itself.

I don't recall having seen a type study on these before, but here are three types with some differences to look for should you go this route. With the shave, on the left, you'll notice a groove in the metal barrel about a 1/2" below the wood handle. The two on the right do not have this. Also, wood handle on the left shave has holes suitable for hanging the shave on a hook. The other two do not.... though I can't confirm that this is the way it came from the factory.

There is a current maker of these. I don't recall his name, though I have a vague recollection he did some distribution through Highland Hardware. I haven't paid attention to that for several years. The advantage of a new one is it would come sharpened. Sharpening these tiny curved blades can be challenging. New ones are about twice the price of the old ones.... I don't recall actual numbers...something like $80 new, $40 old.

Perhaps someone else can chime regarding a contact for the new ones, else, I can look up later.

Another idea perhaps might be to just use a tiny #100 type plane. They're cheaper, easy to sharpen and find a seller.
