>The laminated irons are fairly easy to spot if you have a fresh grind on the end. Seems like a lot of bother to go to, to me, to make a good iron. A Hock iron will take a much better edge and remain sharper for a longer period of time. Kind of like the damascus steel knives, somewhat neat, but of no real value.

>I think Stanley made thier blades by casting the steel ingots so that when the blades were cut from them they would have a high carbon steel section toward the tip. They did not forge weld a laminated iron / steel blade together like the tradtional lamenated blade such as you would see on an old wood plane .....Todd
