Modifying Lie Nielsen Rabbet Plane
Ray B.
>'Lo there,
I have a Lie Nielsen rabbet block plane that can take very fine shavings(I think it's a low angle rabbet plane but I'm not sure how to tell...) but it doesn't seem to remove wood aggressively enough to create new rabbets on account of it's rather small mouth opening I'm guessing. Would I be well served filing away some of the mouth opening(not the section where the blade rests but the forward part of the opening) to create some more room and have a faster cutting time? I'd like to be able to do 1/4" deep or so grooves pretty quickly. If the answer to my query is yes any suggestions on a optimal amount to file away?
