Handle Material . . .
Steve Mackay
>OK, The brain is ramping-up ! I've read more than a few articals on the alchemy of the whole "make your own saws" thang but, never seen anything difinitive for the handle material. Did Henry D. just have access to a boat load of apple wood ? Was it the weight/balance of the saw? Were other woods scarce? Workability of hard vs. soft wood?
Thing is . . . I'm very partial to the "scarce and exotic" (dig) Red Oak (& have lots of ends). With the layman-rookie in mind, whats the scoop ? Thanks Folks !
