#3 Stanley Sweetheart Bench Plane
Chicago Bob
>I recently found a #3 Stanley Sweetheart bench plane at the Kane County flea market (burbs of Chicago) for $15.00. I am restoring the plane which has some moderate to light rust on the blade and cap iron, but 80% of the japanning appears intact on the frog, the sole of the plane looks flat with some small areas of rust and the handle (tote) is broken but both pieces present. Overall, this is a very restorable plane with the Stanley name in a rectangle above and the Sweetheart stamped below on the top of the blade.
I am relatively new to hand tool collecting but have found this particular monthly flea market a very fertile ground for a variety of old metal and wooden planes and measuring tools in various states and conditions. In a good restored condition, what could I expect to pay for the Stanley #3 Sweetheart?
Thanks,
