Non Mortis hinges
John Hoffman
>I had the perfect storm of problems with non-mortis hinges I bought at Rockler. I think they are Amerock (spelling). I used the rockler drill bit contraption that centers the plunge bit into the hinge causing a hole to be centered in the opening.
Ok, so here is was happened. The drill bit came off the housing and was stuck in the wood. No problem, I attached my cordless drill and tightened the chuck to remove the bit...Well the bit break off flush. After turning the air blue, I am forced to move the hinge. I then went and sheared off 5 of the screw heads supplied with the hinges. I used hand screw driver and cordless. I was very careful. In fact one of the screw head broke in half. This caused me to have a number of metal screw bodies in the EXACT place I needed a real screw. I was told that the manufacturing of these hinges is now in China. Either way these things were not worth the aggrivation, time and cost to my project.
Anybody else have problems with this crap?? Any suggestions on where to get hardware that is worth using??
If I have any more problems I am going to have to get some regular mortis hinges and hope the holes are in different places.
