>I did a little rust hunting today at the local flea market. Not much to buy as usual, I did get a M-F eggbeater drill # 85 and found an almost complete M-F 74C miterbox w/ saw, I spent all of $5 for the two. I looked the miter over and it is missing the gadget that holds the bladeguides up. The parts drawing I found online calls them Elevator Put-ups (p/n 14537)and calls for 2, (one per). Does anyone know if these are still available anywhere or is the a part that would fit as a replacement? I have what looks like half of one, the brass housing part. I guess it had a spring loaded shaft of some sort that engaged the notch at the bottom of the "elevator".

Anyhow, I cobbled up a fix for the saw holder upper thingamajiggies. I found the thread in the support post to be some weird 1/2-20 taper or close at least( it's not any standard pipe thread and not bolt thread either, made by Stanley?). Using 1/4 pipe plugs, I chuck them in the lathe and filed down the threads to a taper and re threaded them 1/2-20, followed by a thread chasing with a pointed scraper to deepen the tapered thread. this seemed to work and the plugs are a tight fit in the "elevator" towers. I put 5/16 bullet catches in the plugs, which I drilled out to 21/32 and screwed them in the posts. The bullet catches hold the 27 x 5 miter saw up just enough that a firm push downward releases the saw and it's cutting time!

If there is a source for the real McCoy locator pins I still would be interested.
