>I'm sanding the saw blade and under the gunk is the Disston logo and a dedication then signed by "Henry D". The writing is script. Should I stop sanding or am I getting excited about nothing ?

>I have a D8 with such an etch. It says For Beauty, Finish, and Utility, this Saw cannot be Excelled Henry Disston That script etch was standard on their better saws at a certain time in history. (Reference the Disstonian Institute for more information on dates of manufacture.) It was not written on the saw by hand by Henry. If you want, I can e-mail you a large photo of mine, for comparison.

>Actually this etch was used on Disstons cheaper saws like the no.7 and 8 as well and not just thier better saws so is of course very common....To the left of it you should be able to see what model number the saw is....Todd
