>Revelation ! Got the old pin out FINALY. I collect drafting tools / sets so there is assorted "stuff" from "complete" sets. Guess what . . .an old Dietzgen bow compass point fits in there like it was made for it. Rooting around now in the "box-o-stuff" for a lead holder small enough to fit in the same hole. Ahhhh, Sunday morning, cup-o-joe, birds signing and tool lust !

Usually that's one of my typos.
Glad to hear that you got the marking gauge working fine.
Typically, the points can be re-filed to a chisel point to avoid the sharp pin following grain and to cut through the surface fibres instead.
